#Architecture Project Pick: Frey House Two

When I was growing up in Southern California, land of rocky dry mountains as well as vast ocean, I imagined homes built into the landscapes--cliffside dwellings above the shore, as well as structures protruding from boulders.

#AlbertFrey chose the latter for his personal home in Palm Springs, where he built a steel-and-glass house that touched lightly upon the rocks, even allowing them entry inside. The house, as Afar puts it, almost blends into the land around it, providing views of blooming flowers and vast cityscape, plenty of light, and even a pool to fully enjoy the desert heat. #FreyHouseII is a great precedent study of small, modern living in a space that both envelops, and is enveloped by, a challenging and beautiful terrain.

The house would later be sold to the #PalmSpringsArtMuseum in 1998, and serve as a source of inspiration for the glamorous #CasaMalaparte.
